Psychologic concept of guilt in the work of Karl T. Jaspers

The bachelor thesis describes the concept of guilt in the work of german psychologist and philosopher Karl T. Jaspers. The first part is dedicated to introducing Karl Jaspers as author and thinker, the second part will be elaborating on the context of his own thinking in he light of important thinkers who influenced him. The third part analyses in detail Jaspers's fundametal work The Question of German Guilt, while emphasizing moral and metaphysical guilt. The fourth part is dedicated to the issue of collective guilt and Jaspers's view of this matter and tho reactions of other authors. In the fifth part is developed the concept of conscience, which partly answers some of the questions raised in Jaspers's work. The Picture of the Divided Self in the Work of R.L. Stevenson and Bram Stoker

The thesis focuses on the theme of split personality in the works of Bram Stoker and Robert Louis Stevenson. The aim of this thesis is a comparative analysis of the novels Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by R. L. Stevenson and Dracula by Bram Stoker, with regard to the key theme of split personality. The introductory theoretical part discusses the significance of this theme in Anglo-American gothic prose, drawing mainly on Botting's study Gothic. The following chapters are devoted to a comparative interpretation of selected motifs, such as mystery, love, pursuit, desire for power, fear, violence, science and education, friendship, and love. The thesis also focuses on the function of space and the depiction of crime, guilt, and conscience in both novels. Last but not least, it addresses the significance of contrasts and symbolic images in creating psychological tension in the works of both authors. This thesis offers a psychological perspective on two famous gothic novels and their shared theme.

Is free will just an illusion?

The question of free will is one of the oldest and most complex questions that one deals with. It is not only theoretical, because the consequences of our actions will affect not only our lives, but also the lives of other people. In my bachelor thesis I will rely on the definitions of free will and try to define the basic theories that work with it. What are the basic attitudes to free will and what are the arguments for its existence or non-existence? The main question will be whether we possess free will, whether we are able to make free choices, or whether the act of free will is predestined to us and our free will is then a mere illusion. I will try to present the arguments of some philosophers and show their view of free will and the related moral responsibility.

Global Social Work Statement of Ethical Principles: An Attempt at Analysis and Evaluation

The thesis deals with the "Draft update of the Czech Ethical Code of Social Workers (2006), based on a comparison with the International Code of Ethics (2018)". This thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter deals with ethical codes. The second chapter is aimed at an attempt to analyse and briefly evaluate the current international and Czech codes. In the third chapter, I am dedicated to the draft update and addition of the Czech Code of Ethics for Social Workers (2006) in the light of the International Code of Ethics for Social Workers (2018). The thesis aims to propose updating and supplementing the Czech Ethical Code of Social Workers (2006) in the light of the recently published International Code (2018). The stated goal is fulfilled in the third chapter.

Dealing with the guilt of persons serving a sentence.

The diploma thesis deals with the ethical topic of guilt and its processing in persons serving a sentence. The paper elaborates with the topic of guilt on a practical and theoretical level. The theoretical framework deals with concepts related to guilt (morality, good, evil, conscience, sin), then presents the concept of guilt and the possibilities of its processing. Based on the description of the theory, the theoretical part formulates questions, which are used in the practical part. It describes three case studies of persons serving a sentence. The research is devoted to their individual perception of guilt and subsequently to ways of coping with it. Special attention is paid to Christianity and its influence on the perception of guilt, as two persons believe in God. Research shows that guilt is a fundamental issue for people in prison, whether it is in its negative or positive manifestations. The research confirms the fundamental theoretical starting point that there is a line from the negative effect of guilt to its positive contribution. As all three convicts confirm, guilt is the path to awareness, acceptance, and finally to the correction. The connection between inner conscience and suffering: an attempt at basic clarification

The presented work focuses on the connection between conscience and suffering and the main basic clarification of the two. This is demonstrated using a specific example from Czech history, on the activities of Charter 77, in connection with the legacy of Jan Patočka. First, the work sheds light on ethical notions such as morality, morals, conscience, and suffering, as well as the ethical categories of good and evil. Then the activity, the meaning of Charter 77, is characterized as a practical example of working with the moral aspects of man. The thesis' major purpose was to uncover and examine Jan Patoka's attitude toward conscience and suffering as a result of fidelity to one's own principles in relation to Charter 77. The conclusion illustrates the importance of man as a human being with its values. Especially when it comes to pedagogical practice. The work is theoretical and in its central part explains the states of conscience and suffering in relation to man.

Moral profile of a social worker as a prerequisite for the quality of social work

The diploma thesis focuses on the core and issues related to the work of a social worker and it strives to evaluate the essence of their moral profile. Based on that, it was necessary to define the terms of social work and thus state that a social worker must have a whole range of knowledge, abilities and skills. These include so-called soft skills such as empathy, the ability to listen, the ability to solve conflicts, communication skills. The personal value ladder, characteristics, life views and experience and many others determine the social worker´s approach towards their clients. In the next part I was dealing with ethical dilemmas the social worker faces and they are trying to manage via specific types of approach. The main objective of this thesis was to uncover what kinds of ethically dilemmatic situations the social workers may encounter and what strategies they choose to use in order to manage them.

Thinking in Hannah Arendt's conception

The thesis is an essayistic exploration of Hannah Arendt's thinking, with the central aim of naming the specifics of this thinker's thought, her sources of inspiration and her conception of thinking itself. The thesis attempts to clarify in what ways Arendt's way of thinking may inspire. The starting point of the thesis is her conception of the vita activa and the vita contemplativa, where the distinction between these two lives serves as a starting point for exploring the soil of the spirit. In relation to spiritual activities, the main purpose of the thesis is then to clarify the uniqueness of inquiry in Hannah Arendt's conception and to highlight the inherent nature of thought. The thesis outlines why it is important to inquire after thought itself and suggests the grounds for why Hannah Arendt acts like that. The thesis seeks to show how we are in the world through thinking and how practical reason is the defining factor in today's society. The thesis culminates in the importance of questioning in the process of education. Ethical Aspects of Uterine Loss or Surogate Motherhood

The diploma thesis "Ethical Aspects of Uterine Loss or Surrogate Motherhood" summarizes the historical development and present in the field of surrogate motherhood. It focuses on ethical aspects and pitfalls of this institution. Surrogacy is the only option for many couples to conceive a child of their own. We have to take into account aspects that can disrupt the lives of everyone involved. Ethics, law and psychology play a major role here. Should a woman accept that one cannot have everything in life? How does the Church and theologians in general view this situation? The child is between two mothers and bears the psychological and psychiatric consequences of finding out that the mother who gave birth to them will give "her" child to another mother after birth. Is it ethical to tell the child the truth? This and many other ethical questions arise in the institution of surrogacy and I will address some of them. This bachelor thesis deals with the conceptions of Guilt, Purification and Forgiveness. Based on the study of the writings of Karl Jaspers, Božena Komárková, Martin Buber and Helmut Weber, the thesis comes to an understanding of the issues of guilt, forgiveness and purification in both philosophical and theological terms. Furthermore, this work introduces other issues that relate to the chosen topic, for example, the concepts of Repentance, Penance and Conversion. Thanks to the acquired findings, I want to come to an understanding of the concept of guilt in Bernhard Schlink's novel The Reader.
